Eight Ways Coffee is Good for your Health

To celebrate World Coffee Day discover the many ways in which coffee is good for your health.

1. IT DETOXES YOU

While coffee is a stimulant, it is actually rich in antioxidants. A study carried out in 2005 found that while fruit and vegetables are high in antioxidants, the best source of antioxidants that the human body actually absorbs is coffee!

2. IT REDUCES STRESS

Everyone loves the smell of coffee, but did you know that it actually helps to reduce stress? Researchers in Korea found that exposure to coffee aromas causes changes in the brain proteins tied to sleep deprived stress.

3. IT IS GOOD FOR YOUR LIVER
A study of subjects carried out over 22 years found that subjects that drink a minimum of one cup of coffee a day were 20% less likely to develop cirrhosis of the liver.

4. IT EASES DEPRESSION
Research has shown that people who drink at least four cups of coffee are 10% less likely to be depressed that those you abstain from drinking it. It is believed the powerful antioxidants in coffee are the reason for this.

5. IT IS LINKED TO REDUCED SUICIDE RATES

Coffee acts as a mild anti-depressant and helps your body to create serotonin and dopamine. A study carried out in Harvard found that drinking two to four cups of coffee reduces the risk of suicide in subjects by about 50%.

6. IT PREVENTS SKIN CANCER(IN WOMEN)

Harvard Medical School performed a study of men and women over a twenty year period and found that women who drink three or more cups of coffee a day are less likely to develop skin cancer than those who abstain.

7. IT ENHANCES ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE

Caffeine increases the number of fatty acids in your bloodstream, so a cup of coffee before a workout allows your muscles to absorb and burn those fats for fuel.

8.  IT KEEPS YOUR BRAIN HEALTHY
Researchers have found that older people, those above the age of 65, who had higher levels of caffeine in their blood tended to develop Alzheimer’s disease up to four years later than those with lower levels of caffeine.
